Prentice kicks off PC leadership campaign
By The Canadian Press
EDMONTON - Jim Prentice has officially launched his Alberta Tory leadership campaign by promising to end the cronyism and perks seen under former premier Alison Redford.
Prentice told 100 supporters in Edmonton that trust between the government and the people has been broken and must be rebuilt.
He said if he wins the leadership vote, he will bring in rules to remind caucus members that they are the servants of the people.
He also said he will make the province's financial plan more conservative, but didn't give details.
Prentice and Ric McIver (muh-KYE'-vuhr) are running to replace Redford in a party vote set for Sept. 6.
Redford resigned in March in an escalating scandal over lavish spending on herself and inner circle.
