New lines – not a double parking zone

Barriere once again has straight road lines in the community where the incorrect crooked ones (that had been painted over last summer) were starting to show through.

While the road lines were being redone, there were also new parking space lines painted in front of Interior Savings and the post office.

However, the new parking space lines have been moved over a considerable amount towards the roadway.  This has resulted in some motorists thinking this is now a double parking zone, which it is not.

We cleared up the confusion by speaking with District of Barriere CAO Colleen Hannigan, who stated, “To make it safer for pedestrians and scooters who are travelling along Barriere Town Road, the new parking space lines in front of the post office and Interior Savings have been aligned immediately adjacent to the travelled portion of the road. For example, in front of Interior Savings, pedestrians just walking past the building have historically been forced to walk on the traffic side of the parking spaces. The long term goal is to have a continuous safe pedestrian and scooter corridor from one end of Barriere Town Road to the other.”
